Author Otto A. Berliner's book, some might say, reads as an international espionage thriller. It weaves an intricate narrative about the importance of one man to the lives of thousands in his Award-Winning novel, The Cobbler of Normandy. The significance of top secret intelligence is well known to those involved in the military but because of the importance of keeping underground operatives alive, their stories often go untold and their deeds unsung. The Cobbler of Normandy chronicles the sacrifice put forth by French intelligence gatherers to save the lives of many.

Still, one might ask, how important is one man? The Cobbler of Normandy centers on Marceau Badeau, the finest cobbler in Normandy and a key person to the Resistance. He struggles to balance his personal life, his shop and his operative activities so as not to be caught by the Gestapo- the German police who use whatever means necessary to elicit information from the people they capture.

With the help of his adopted daughter Bridget, Marceau gathers as much information as possible about the fortification and defense positions of the Germans and relays the information to the Allied forces using ingenious methods to avoid detection. As the date of the invasion draws closer, an especially psychotic, egotistical and paranoid Gestapo member zeros in on Marceau and becomes determined to bring him down. With help from Bridget's true love and other undercover Allied operatives, Marceau find himself in a race against time to find the information the Allies need to save the lives of thousands of troops as well as the lives of those Marceau loves.

With the assistance of his tour guide, Normandy specialist, and other French Resistance operatives, the author was able to research the area and history of Normandy gathering as many obscure facts as possible to make this fictional story come to life.
